The pre- production process
The pre-production process is a long and continues process with many different aspect of how the pre-production process take a long to actually finish the paperwork and the finally make the film.
Type of production:
There are many types of production here are a few examples. SMA {stop motion animation} an example of SMA animations is Wallace and Gromit, and cartoon animation, for example Scooby Doo, and also films in the Hollywood industry and independent film industry’s. Independent film companies use different types of production to produce their low budget films. A way they produce their films they use social media networks for example Facebook, twitter, YouTube, iTunes and the internet, another way independent films produce their work is going to local film festivals and show their work and production distribution companies to try and produce their films. Independent films use social media to produce their films because millions of people use social media and the more views their film get producers will get involved and the independent film company will get bigger.
Hollywood production is a little different than independent films because they make big budget films to appeal to audiences and produce their in a larger scale. An example of a Hollywood film would be Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Hollywood film companies use bigger types of production to produce their high budget films. A way they produce their films is by marketing their film to TV stations and putting trailers on TV and putting their trailers in cinemas, also they use billboards and posters across cities to produce their films. Another way they produce is the same as independent films is use social media to produce their films. Hollywood films also use large production companies to advertise their films, like Paramount and Universal to produce their films when come out in cinemas and DVD’s.
In my depict task we were not asked to produce our film however we disturbed out film on YouTube and our pre production paperwork on our blogs
Finance:
Many high budget films use their production companies to deal with the finances, producers are the people who give the film more money to invest in the film and make it better when I comes out. Several Hollywood films use source funds to fund the films, for example numerous films use private investors, for instance several big time Hollywood invest their own money into a film because they like the idea of the film or they want a small profit for when the film comes out in cinemas and DVD’s, like George Clooney, Clint Eastwood, Ben Stiller and Gene Kelly, most of these actors directed and invested into their own films because they know how films are made being in them and already have the advantage being in finances since they started in movies, however they also have a vision or an idea that they like and want to direct it themselves, and they can also putting in their own money they can make profit from it.
Low budget films use very different ways to raise money to make and produce their own films. An example would be they would use ways such as crowd funding which helps by raising small amounts of money from a large number, typically from the internet, sponsors which helps by the sponsors supporting the film finically, self-funding which means people who are making the film will take a loan from the bank or their own money to produce their film, public money, like organisations such as the national lottery that helps 12 different independent organisations, each with specialist knowledge of their sectors and BFI [ the British film instate]. The BFI uses the national lottery funds to develop and support original UK filmmakers and films, and to increase audiences who van enjoy them. They seek to reflect the public in the films they support, the audience who watch them, the filmmakers and actors and crews who make them.
Requirements:
All high budget Hollywood films and small budget films all need so many requirements to make the film but also the behind the scenes crew have some many requirements as well. All films weather it is a high budget film or a low budget they all need to have certain requirements and need many people to make it happen. All period drama TV shows all have so many qualities like having props, for example the BCC uses many props in the period dramas or TV they use loans from big prop companies who supply and make props for to and films.
In out depict film we didn’t have a budget for the film only it obtains our camera, tripod and SD card
Catering:
All big Hollywood films have to have big catering company on the set of the film because they are so many people from the crew to the actors to the director who have to eat. Catering companies have over a hundred people working on the food. Catering companies are hired from production managers for a certain amount of days while they are film scenes, they also provide the production managers and directors a sample menu of what they will be serving on the set, an example of a well-known catering company used for film sets are Eat to Beat.
Locations:
All TV shows and films don’t always need to stay on a set or use a green screen, all TV shows and films have to sometime during filming to go to certain locations for certain scenes. For example on Game of Thrones even though they used CGI on most of the scenes to create this world most of the scenes they went across Europe and the Mediterranean to film. They filmed in Northern Ireland, Croatia, Iceland, Spain and Gozo.
Staff:
Any film weather it is a Hollywood film or an independent film they all have need to have to make a film possible.
Camera
Camera staff roles are to physically control the camera equipment both in a studio and on location for a film, television, video broadcasts and recordings, also in filmmaking, to design the lighting, also known as the cinematographer or a director of photography.
Sound and lighting
The roles of sound and lighting staff are to design lighting for theatre, events, festivals, live shows and filming a scene, they also involved in rigging the sound stage or set and controlling artificial and electric lights.
Costumes, hair and makeup:
The role of the costume designer in the film is designing and investing clothing and the overall appearance of character, the costume designer will take into action what nation the film is set in and what class or a period. For example Pride and Prejudice it is set 1813 and so the costumes had to be directed to that era, the costume designer for the film is Jacqueline Durran.
The roles of the hair and makeup artist in the film to design the overall design, application, continuity and care and makeup and hair throughout the pre-production and production of the film. Another role they do is to answer the director and production designer, the key makeup department is that is responsible for planning the makeup designs for all the leading and supporting cast, and to include cosmic makeup, facial and body hair. An example of a makeup designer for a major film is Adrien Morot who did the special effects make up on Warm Bodies, another example for hair design is Alessandro Bertolazzi who was the hair designer for Suicide Squad.
Cranes, technicians and dolly runners.
runners:
The main roles of technicians or electrical lighting technicians, they are involved with rigging the location sets and controlling artificial, electric lights.
Cranes or jibs are used in films whenever you want to have a birds eye view shot. A crane or jib is a boom device with a camera on one end, and a counterweight and camera controls on the other. It operates like a see-saw, but with a balanced point located close to the counterweight, so that the camera on the end of arm can move through an extended arc. Dolly runner’s roles are whenever they are is a tracking scene in the middle of the woods dolly runners will push the camera along a lone track as the shot is being film, they use dolly cameras to create a smooth movement on a horizontal axis. Runners are very important on a film set even though it is a small job it has many qualities and roles to it. The role of a runner is to do photocopying important pieces of paper to producers and directors, hirering props, transporting scrips to actors and actresses, write down shot lists and etc. runners are one of the most important jobs on a film set even though it’s the biggest role it is the starting point for anyone who wants to anything in film.
Actors:
Every time you watch a film or TV show you can always pick out the celebrity actor and most of the time do all of their own stunts if they are not that dangerous, a couple of actors and actresses who have done their own stunts. Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Angelina Jolie and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Most actors do their own but some can’t do their own stunts because they have injured themselves in doing another stunt or it is too dangerous to do it as Sir Michael Caine said “never do a stunt on the last day cause its’s dangerous”. So that’s why actors have stunt doubles do their scene. The role of a stunt double is a skilled replacement used for dangerous scenes in film.
Equipment hiring:
Even though many films have millions of dollars most of them hire their equipment to save costs of the film. Most films hirer high definition, ultra HD 4k camera equipment, monitors, jobs, camera cranes, tripods, vision mixers, 3-axis gimbals, LED and tungsten. Etc. all films need to hire their equipment to save cost but if they have used the same hiring company they can sometimes get a better discount on the equipment they need.
SFX:
Special effects or SFX is an abbreviation for special effects, is a software product that makes it easy to create certain kinds of hypertext links within a collection of information, they are used as illusions or visual tricks used in films to simulate the imagined events in a story or virtual world. An example of these types of special effects would be used in The Avengers, with having to use SFX with the Hulk and the villains and having to use a green screen to simulate New York City being destroyed. A couple types of special effects used in films are bullet time, computer generated imagery [often using shaders], digital compositing, dolly zoom, in-camera effects, match moving, matte [filming], matte painting and miniature effects.
Personnel:
Personnel is not a big group in film but it has a big impact on the director’s point of view on making the film. A film producer creates the conditions, supervises and controls mattes such as fund raising, hiring key personnel and arranging for distributions.
Time:
In any major big time film during the pre-production process the director and the producers will go over the time schedule of when they are filming each scene, but during filming if thy miss out an important scene that they will have to change the whole production of the film and that will change the producing aspect of when the film is going to be released out into theatres and then that will cost the producers millions of dollars to change the date realise and also it will impact the films budget and decline the effect the film when comes into cinemas.
Regulations:
Regulations in film and media are used not just in making a film but the cast and crew, also when producers produce the film.
Media regulation is the control or guidance of mass media by governments and other bodies. ... The principal targets of media regulation are the press, radio and television, but may also include film, recorded music, cable, satellite, storage and distribution technology (discs, tapes etc.), the internet, mobile phones etc. The Office of Communications, commonly known as Ofcom, is the UK government-approved regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries of the United Kingdom.
Conclusion:
So to finish issue the point I’m trying to make from this is that films are not made in one day it take the strength and the determination of every single person on set and off the set and both nothing would be done without any of them.
